WORKS - Work Organisation and Restructuring in the Knowledge Society - is a pan-European research project which aims at improving our understanding of the major changes in work. Taking account of the global forces and of the regional diversity within Europe, the project will investigate the evolving division of labour within and between organisations and the related changes at the workplace.

This term, which became fashionable in the 1990s, was coined to describe the process by which business processes are redesigned, using information and communications technologies, in order to reduce costs and maximise efficiency. Business process re-engineering is often accompanied by outsourcing or delayering.

Business service provider
A business service provider is a company (or, more rarely, a not-for-profit agency) that provides outsourced business services to other organisations. The term is sometimes contrasted with the broader term 'service provider' which includes any organisation providing services to the general public as well as businesses.
